Lyft will now let you choose your own pronouns in the app

Lyft updated its app to allow both drivers and passengers to select from a list of pronouns they want during the ride. The company framed the decision as part of a broader push for inclusivity, particularly for the LGBTQ+ community.

Previously Lyft only offered two choices of pronouns, male and female. With the update, riders and drivers can select from a list of pronouns that include:

  • They/Them/Theirs
  • She/Her/Hers
  • He/Him/His
  • My pronoun isn’t listed
  • Prefer not to say

Drivers will be able to see the pronoun that the passenger has selected, and vice versa. Lyft is going a step further to help transgender drivers with name changes. The company said is would also offer “free resources” through the National Center for Transgender Equality to advise drivers on the name change process. And it would provide $200 for name change fees, executed in partnership with NCTE, for each driver.
